In Hokkaido, population decline and aging are progressing more rapidly than in other parts of Japan. As a result, regional communities and industries are facing serious challenges, including economic decline. To overcome these difficulties, closer and more integrated collaboration among the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries is required. Within the Hokkaido Higher Education and Research System, Otaru University of Commerce, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and Kitami Institute of Technology are working together under a shared vision with the aim of achieving it during the Fourth Medium-Term Goal Period.
To cultivate individuals who can flexibly adapt to social changes such as globalization, Society5.0, and the SDGs, and who can play leading roles across various sectors of society.
To address regional challenges centered on Hokkaido, we promote practical and specialized recurrent education, aiming to contribute to regional revitalization.
To respond to the diverse range of challenges and needs facing Hokkaido’s industries and economy, we cultivate and produce problem-solving professionals through interdisciplinary education that integrates the humanities and sciences across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs.
In an “era of 100-year lifespans”, we respond to a diverse range of educational needs, such as relearning and upskilling while moving between work and study, and thereby make significant contributions to enhancing learning environments for students and working adults, as well as to revitalizing Hokkaido’s industries and economy.
